Postpartum Care

During the Postpartum Period
The first few months after birthing is often referred to as the "4th" trimester". It is a time for resting and healing, learning how to support and nurture your body after birth, bonding with your baby, feeding your baby, learning baby cues, nurturing new connections with your birth partner/family, integrating your birth, and much more. Our postpartum doulas can help make all of that easier for you while increasing your confidence as a parent. We have daytime and nighttime hours available and offer a range of additional services from bodywork to placenta encapsulation, and a list of community resources. We would love to support you through your postpartum journey!
A Postpartum Doula supports the family after birth through the womb-to-world baby transition. Typically this is from birth to the first 3 months, sometimes beyond. The doula mentors the parent(s) through creating their vision and meeting their goals. This preparation can be done prenatally or at the first visit after birth.
We can help with breastfeeding skills, optimizing skin-to-skin, baby wearing, newborn care, rest and sleep, healing, belly band, or binding information- supporting the healthy transition of moving through everyday life with the baby while meeting the parent(s) needs, and more.
We support infant feeding from breastfeeding to nurturing bottle feeding by optimizing bonding and finding a balance in meeting everyone's needs. We have advanced education and experience in supporting breastfeeding, for everything from creating a nursing station to helping in implementing your lactation consultant's care plan. Within our team, there are also options for massage and therapeutic bodywork to enable ease of movement in babies and comfort in one's body after birth. We also have a network of trusted professionals if more advanced help is needed. Each doula in our collective offers some unique services or packages; together we've got you covered from pregnancy through postpartum!

We Welcome Andrea Fowler to Our Postpartum Team!
Andrea’s pronouns are She/Her. Andrea is enthusiastic about supporting all families as they navigate the many stages of parenthood from pregnancy through postpartum and during their lactation journeys. Andrea enjoys helping parents create plans for their physical recovery after birth, discover their own parenting style, adjust to life with a newborn while caring for older children and set boundaries with postpartum visitors to prioritize the physical and emotional well being of the birthing parent. After 12 years of experience as a full time nanny, Andrea became a volunteer leader with a local free lactation support group. After the birth of her second child, she completed her postpartum doula training with DONA and then followed her passion for lactation support by becoming a Certified Lactation Counselor. Andrea will be there to support your lactation journey every step of the way, so that it can be beautiful whether it lasts 5 days, 5 weeks, 5 months or 5 years. In her free time, she enjoys reading about lactation, parenting, historical fiction and light fantasy. You will often find Andrea playing board games with her husband and three children, going for family walks and attending free outdoor events in Chapel Hill that are offered by the public schools, library and the town.
